About Masjid Al-Madinah
Once there was a dinner party at 10 Wellington Road, Upper Darby, Pennsylvania on 15th November 1998. At the end of the party, everybody made Isha salaat in jamaat and after prayer Br. Sheikh Mohammed Siddique proposed that since there are lot of Muslim people in Upper Darby, we should establish a Masjid for making salaat in jamaat and Islamic school for the children. Br. Yasin Babu, Br. Nazmul Hossain, Br. Mobarak Hossain and some other brothers strongly recommended his noble idea and at once they had a short discussion how to make it successful. Br. Sheik Siddique took a vital part and gathered some other local brothers and discussed elaborately how to move forward. These brothers decided to perform Isha salaat in jamaat in each brother’s house in daily basis as a start of establishing a Masjid. After 2 months one of our beloved Brother Fazle Samad sacrificed his basement for 8 months as a temporary place for the Masjid until a permanent place is found. During this period Br. Saleh Ahmed and Br. Mohammed Abdul Gaffur was the voluntary Imam of the temporary Masjid. Br. Gaffur also maintained all the paper works in connection with establishing the Masjid.
Meanwhile, a full committee was formed and took necessary responsibility to establish a permanent place for the Masjid and Islamic School. After a while some of the member of the Masjid Al-Madinah ran into "Sheriff Sale" of the houses in Delaware County. They informed this opportunity to some other brothers and it was unanimously accepted in a meeting to buy a house in that way in order to save money. Br. Siddique and Br. Samad took initiative and collected $23,000 (twenty three thousand) dollar as a loan in 1 day to buy a permanent place for the Masjid. The next day they got a beautiful house at a cheap price of $22,000 (twenty two thousand) dollar located at 6800 Ludlow Street, Upper Darby, PA that is our Masjid today.
On December 10, 1999, in a general meeting with the consent of everybody, Br. Siddique and Br. Samad, with the help of a lawyer, officially transferred the property to the name of Masjid Al-Madinah.
